Located in Seattle WA, Osprey Aerial Systems LLC is aerospace engineering services firm and a newly added supplier to Boeing’s approved vendor list. We specialize in product development, R&D, and engineering support across commercial and defense platforms. As we grow, we are seeking an experienced DER to support upcoming certification and compliance work.
Overview -
Osprey Aerial Systems is seeking an experienced FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) to support certification efforts across a range of aerospace programs, including Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), Type Certificates (TCs), and Parts Manufacturer Approvals (PMAs) on modification projects. The DER will review, approve, and certify engineering data to ensure full compliance with applicable FAA regulations and work closely with program teams, FAA personnel, and ODA units.
Key Responsibilities -
Serve as FAA-authorized DER in your designated discipline(s).
Review and approve engineering data, reports, and test results for compliance with FAA regulations.
Provide guidance and technical leadership during certification projects.
Interact with FAA ACOs, ODA Units, and program stakeholders.
Prepare or review certification plans, issue papers, conformity requests, and compliance checklists.
Support project scheduling and technical reviews related to certification milestones.
Conduct conformity inspections, as needed.
Provide technical mentoring or training for in-house engineering teams regarding FAA compliance and certification practices.
Required Qualifications -
B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline
12+ years of working experience in relevant industry
In-depth understanding of Modification and Repair of Aircraft Structure
Current FAA DER designation (ODA Unit Member or Consultant DER).
Minimum 10 years of experience in aerospace engineering.
Experience working with Part 23, 25, or 27/29 certification programs.
Strong knowledge of FAA procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Authorized in one or more of the following disciplines:
Structures
Mechanical Systems
Electrical Systems/Avionics
Flight Test
Powerplant or Propulsion
Preferred Qualifications -
Experience working with STC, TC, or Mod projects.
Prior engagement with ODA organizations (Bombardier Defense, Bombardier, Gulfstream, Boeing).
Knowledge of FAA conformity inspection and FAA DER procedures.
M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline
15+ years of working experience in relevant industry
Expert knowledge of Femap/Nastran
Experience performing analysis on aircraft primary structure
Strong understanding of composite laminate theory
Experience with bonded joints
Hands on experience working within aircraft certification program
Good understanding of composite materials and manufacturing processes
Excellent understanding of FAR Part 23 and 27 regulations
Experience with MRB
Experience with Dassault Systems CAD
Compensation:
$160,500 - $218,600 annually (DOE)
Contract or project-based hourly rates negotiable.

Compensation at Osprey Aerial Systems will target base pay for this position is $160,500 - $218,600 annually. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
